Hello, world

What Forkluck is, who it is for, and why costing a menu in a spreadsheet stops working the moment a price changes.

Hello, world

Forkluck is now live.

I built it because I had too many spreadsheets for food costing: price-2024.xlsx, price-2025.xlsx, master.xlsx, labor.xlsx, and so on. I wanted one place to keep recipes, ingredients, prices, invoices, labor, and sales connected and up to date.

I built it for myself, then decided to make it available to anyone who wants to use it. Costing in a spreadsheet works right up until it doesn’t. A supplier changes a case size or price, and every formula that references the old value is out of date. I wanted something easier.

Forkluck keeps everything connected. Ingredients link to invoices for accurate prices and with a full price history. Recipes can nest inside other recipes, making them easy to scale. Change an ingredient’s price once, and every recipe that uses it updates.

Forkluck is open source, so you can host it yourself. If you’d like me to host it for you, it’s $7 a month. If you cost food for a living, I’d love to hear what breaks.
